Hamburg and Thüringen surprisingly miss qualification
The results from last weekend’s games in the IWBF EuroLeague 1 determined the opponents for RSV Lahn-Dill. From the 6th until the 8th of May the Middle Hesse team will be playing against Rome, Cantu, Madrid, Besiktas and Galatasaray Istanbul, Porto Torres, as well as hosting team Zwickau.
It was a surprise though that the two RBBL teams BG Baskets Hamburg and RSB Thuringia Bulls missed out on that opportunity. Both teams could not qualify for Champions Cup, but got their ticket for André-Vergauwen-Cup, which will take place from the 21st until the 23rd of April in Valladolid. Whilst Thuringia were defeated by Italy’s record team Santa Lucia Rome and BSR Getafe from Spain, Hamburg lost against last year’s finalists Iluinion Madrid and GSD Porto Torres.
All eight qualified teams will go to Zwickau in May and start off playing in two groups of four teams, of which the two top teams will get into the semi finals. Record winners in this competition with six wins are title-defendants RSV Lahn-Dill, who will be playing for the 13th time in a row this year.
