77:22 win in the last game of the year 2015
Title -defendants RSV Lahn-Dill stays close to leaders of the table RSV Thuringia Bulls. The 72:22 (17:2/32:8/55:16) win against the bottom-of-the-league team was the 9th of 10 games so far. Best player on court this Sunday was US-American Steve Serio with 23 points and 12 rebounds.
Around 1.300 spectators came to see the game on the fourth advent, and it took Serio 75 seconds for the man from New York to get in his first three, setting the first stones for the win. But whilst Frankfurt had problems to find into the game at all, RSV left many a chance for themselves unused.
It took until Briton Joe Bestwick came on court to increase the 11:2 lead to 19:4 (11th min). “We did create great opportunities for ourselves under the basket, but really didn’t do the best job actually making the points.” said Head Coach Nicolai Zeltinger after the game. So both teams went into half-time with a rather weak score of 32:16. Only centre Joe Bestwick shone before changeover with 15 points and a hit ratio of 63 percent, whilst all his colleagues stayed under 50 percent.
When the teams returned, Captain Michael Paye seemed to have found his focus, whilst Frankfurt were still struggling against the aggressive defence without compromise. They managed to keep the number of their mistakes low, but couldn’t get into a good position within the 24 seconds. Overall only meagre 18 percent of their shots actually went in. Best players for the opposition were twins Tim and Sven Diedrich, who at least set some accents in Frankfurt’s offence.
RSV started the second half with a 12:0 rum leading to 44:8 (24th min). Serio’s 3rd and 4th three lead to 54:14 (27th min) before Jan Haller pushed the score board to 60:18 (30th min), all steps on the way to this sovereign win. The atmosphere during the game was brilliant, a fun way to celebrate this 13th home-win in a row before the Christmas break.
The first game of the new year will take place on the 9th of January in Hanover. Fans and team will then get back together a week later at home against USC München.
