Solid performances on both sides results in 71:51-success
RSV Lahn-Dill have successfully defended their lead of the table last Saturday at home when they beat FCK Rolling Devils 71:51 (30:14/41:28/56:39). The game was not always first-class, but had a lot fast and intense duels, and Thomas Boehme became top-scorer for his team with 25 points.
Coach Nicolai Zeltinger had asked for fast pace and quick combinations, and his team managed to comply with that in the first minutes of the game very successfully. After three minutes the hosts were leading 11:2, before Steve Serio scored the 25:6 (8th min). He and Thomas Boehme were showing off their speed in that phase, and together they had already scored 18 points.
It was former RSV-player Mark Beissert who was able to close the gap slightly scoring two three-point shots leading to 12:25 (9th min) “These were important points for Kaiserslautern, and we were forced to put a bigger focus on defending Mark.” said Zeltinger after the final whistle. If this was the reason for the break in the RSV-performance is unclear. It’s obvious though that RSV lost their accuracy from the middle distance at the start of the second quarter, whilst the guests continually braver and better.
They were cheered on by their fans who travelled with them, and managed to close the gap further to 41:30 (31st min) thanks to Swiss Janic Binda. “Lautern played very well in this phase and were not intimidated by our high lead. They were a great deal responsible for our problems at that stage. “ said Nicolai Zeltinger. But his team got back on track after the 50:39 (26th min) and brought the win home. Until the 37th minute they had a 17:4-run, which didn’t leave room for doubt after a three-point-play by Briton Joe Bestwick lead to 67:43.
“We had a solid game and showed off our potential in the first quarter. We need to use the upcoming games to practice keeping our game on a high level. That is something we didn’t manage today.” said the 42-year-old RSV-coach about his team’s performance. “Tommy had another good and clever game, and played a great defence.”
