National player Gesche Schuenemann will leave RSV Lahn-Dill this summer and move to Nuremberg for private reasons. The thirty-year-old, who has been playing for RSV since 2006, has won 6 German Championships and DRS-Cups as well as 2010 and 2012 the European Champion Cup with her team.
It is not clear yet where the athlete from Giessen will play in the upcoming season, but a very good option for her is Hamburger SV, where she would be training with her national coach Holger Glinicki. For definite is the move to Nuremberg though, where her partner Christian lives. “The move is all planned for this summer, and I am talking to HSV, but there is nothing decided yet. Hamburg is of course a great option, most of all looking ahead to the women-World Championships in Toronto 2014, as a lot of the German women play there and I would be able to get enough minutes on court.” says Gesche, who told the management about her decision after the Champions Cup in Valladolid.
“Gesche has always acted as a great athlete and good role model, and of course I can understand that she, being a national player, is not happy with the minutes she is getting with us. We know that 1,5 bonus points are not enough for a player like her with high classification points to be getting reasonable minutes in the games.” says RSV-Coach Nicolai Zeltinger. “Gesche has celebrated a lot of great successes with us; of course we are sad to see her leave. We value her a lot personally and wish her all the best for her future.” adds RSV-Manager Andreas Joneck.
