RSV Lahn-Dill hosted by Cologne 99ers
The game this weekend in the Sporthalle Belgischer Ring in Cologne will be a special match for two RSV-players. Bjoern Lohmann and Joe Bestwick are returning to their old club as guests at 17 o’clock wearing RSV-kit for the first time against Cologne 99ers.
Especially for the 27-year old Briton the match will be more than just an athletic challenge. From 2007 until 2009 he wore Cologne colours and became Bundesliga top scorer in his second season there. But also privately he kept his connection to the Rhine-City, as next to many friends who still live there his girlfriend Dana Epkens was born and bred in Cologne. Until last summer Bjoern Lohmann has also been wearing 99ers kit. When the ASV Bonn abdicated from the Bundesliga, he moved with his team mate Thomas Becker and Coach Martin Otto further down the Rhine, before he joined Lahn-Dill.
These little side stories are minor matter for Nicolai Zeltinger before this 9th and last game day in the first half of the season. Despite being able to go back to using the strength of David Amend, Christopher Huber and Marco Zwerger he is worrying about two hand-injuries of Thomas Boehme and Gesche Schuenemann. Still, the team is starting as favourites into the duel.
With three wins and five defeats the Rhineland team are not rid of all relegation worries yet, after they lost last weekend to Hamburger SV and therefore gave the northern German team their first success of this season. The Cologne team convinces with their strong team, national players Marina Mohnen and Thomas Becker, as well as the Dutch Centre Jaap Smid. All three together managed to score 47 points on average for their team each game.
