Jubilee for Dirk Köhler – reunion with Lars Christink
The RSV Lahn-Dill, third in the Wheelchair Basketball Bundesliga, lie in wait for visiting Jena Caputs this weekend in Wetzlar, whilst at the same time their closest opposition for the top of the table, Zwickau and Team Thueringen, are fighting to snatch points away from each other. To profit from this situation Head-Coach Nicolai Zeltinger’s team will have to win the home game against Jena Caputs this Saturday at 4 o’clock in the August-Bebel-Sporthalle.
The fans can look forward to a reunion with former RSV-Captain Lars Christink, who wore the Lahn-Dill colours from 2001 until 2006 and with the team won titles both nationally and internationally. Player-Coach Christnik is accompanied by National Player Matthias Heimbach, who currently is having probably the best season of his career and will have to be watched closely in defence. Also the hosting team Lahn-Dill has the spotlight put on a certain player. Old-hand Dirk Koehler, who still has fond memories of his time with Christink, is celebrating his 20th anniversary playing for Lahn-Dill. In this remarkable and tremendous timespan since his debut in 1992 “the long one” scored 4,863 points in overall 486 games and has been involved in all 25 won titles of his team. A record that, not just nationally, is second to none.
Although the team from Jena are the underdogs, they were able to gain some space in the fight to get away from the last spot in the league after two wins over Hamburger SV and Roller Bulls St. Vith. Whilst the Caputs are looking forward to two relatively safe matches against Munich and Roller Bulls after this weekend, they can have a more relaxed game here in Wetzlar. Despite National Player Heimbach Coaching-Duo Nicolai Zeltinger and Ralf Neumann will set the focus on the offensively dangerous players Mehmet Hayirli, Andy Ortmann and Captain Eric Zinke.
RSV Lahn-Dill will play finally with a completely recovered squad. Only David Amend, Christopher Huber and Marco Zwerger, who are playing with RSV Lahn-Dill II at the same time, will be sadly missed in the match against Jena Caputs.
RBBL, 8th game day: RSC-Rollis Zwickau – RSB Team Thüringen, RSV Lahn-Dill – Jena Caputs, USC München – Mainhatten Skywheelers, Roller Bulls St. Vith – Goldmann Dolphins Trier (all Sa.), Hamburger SV – Köln 99ers (Su.).
