Sobering defeat after extra time – Catching up was not rewarded
RSV Lahn-Dill II have been brought back down to earth in the 2nd wheelchair basketball-Bundesliga. The 1st-division reserve have been defeated by SKV Ravensburg after extra time with 59:61 (11:10/20:22/29:39/49:49) and therefore had to accept the second overtime-defeat in a row. This slip throws the team back to the fifth spot in the league.
The Wetzlar team had a hard time getting into the game due to their opponents’ hard pacing. A 10:06 reached by a fast-break of Zacharias Wittman secured the team a brief and short lead, but sadly a lot of good opportunities have been missed as well.
“We put the base for a defeat down pretty early on” RSV II-Coach Daniel Stange draws the balance soberly. “It took us until the fourth quarter to join fighting the battle. That is simply the wrong attitude towards these opponents.”
Especially Benjamin Schlabach, despite not having scored until the second quarter, took responsibility for his team SVK-Ravensburg, who have been without success so far. The multiple league-topscorer added eight points to the score-board, and so has been pricking the otherwise solid RSV-defence. (20:22, 20th min)
The Middle Hesse team returned dedicatedly, but the team lead by Captain David Amend stayed stiff, whilst SKV Ravensburg took off with a 6:0-sprint (22:30, 23rd) By the end of the quarter the difference even rose to a 10-point gap (29:39) and for the second time in the game the opposition was leading with double-figures.
The Wetzlar team then suddenly fought back though, and after baskets by Wittmann and Zwerger the game seemed to be open again (39:43, 34th). Ravensburg’s old hand Georg Beschler put all his experience into the game and managed to put a 43:49 (38th) on the scoreboard, but a basket by Zwerger and another two by Amend forced the game into extra-time. In an exciting slugfest Ravensburg’s Centre Beschler took over at the free-throw line and took home the win and the first success for his team.
Ravensburg: Schlabach (23), Beschler (14), Turnwald (12), Bayer (6), Breitenstein (6), Ruoff, Wohlfahrt (n.e.).
Lahn-Dill: Amend (18), Beissert (16/1 Dreier), Zwerger (12), Huber (7), Wittmann (6), Crombach, Schneidmüller, Arras (n.e.).
