#GERmeinsam nach Rio – everyone wants to be part of Rio 2016
It’s not just the German wheelchair basketball players who want to get their ticket to Rio at the European Championship in Worcester, Great Britain. The DBB-basketball players, who will be guests at Rittal Arena Wetzlar on the 7th of August, will be taking part in their own Europeans in Berlin to book their spot in Rio. Germany vs. Czech Republic, Friday 7th of August, 19:30, Rittal Arena
It’s going to be the home-premiere this summer and at the same time it will be the first time, that the German national team travel to Wetzlar: On the 7th of August at 19:30 the German Men will be playing against the Czechs at Rittal Arena.
“After two training camps and a tournament in Trento, Italy, the game in Wetzlar will be our first game this Europeans-year in front of a German Audience. A lot of players who will be playing at the EuroBasket, will already be playing against the Czech Republic . We’re hoping for many excited fans and we will do everything that the game will be a brilliant basketball-experience.” says National Coach Chris Fleming about the upcoming game.
NBA shooting star Dennis Schroeder, playing for Atlanta Hawks, is booked for the game. The 21-year-old point guard will come home from his second NBA-season, where he has made great progress. His stats show ten points, 2,1 rebounds and 4,1 assists, which got him the title “most improved player”.
The super fast player had a big role in getting his national team the qualification to the EuroBasket 2015, and everyone is excited to see him and Dirk Novitzki – who will join the national team after their game in Wetzlar – play together.
But there are many other interesting and excited players in the German Team, like experienced national player Heiko Schaffartzik or Robin Benzing, who has just moved to the Spanish league ACB. Not but not least there is German Giant Tibor Pleiss, who towers over everyone with his 2,18 m height, and who has signed a three-year contract with NBA-team Utah Jazz.
Most of all interesting for fans in Wetzlar  will be the three players from FRAPORT SKYLINERS, Johannes Voigtmann, Danilo Barthel and Konstantin Klein, who will be fighting for a nomination to the Europeans. The German national team has only had four games against Czech Republic: 1994 in Ulm and Landshut in friendly games and in the Europeans 1999 and 2007. The Czech team will also be taking part in the Europeans 2015, as part of group D with Belgium, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and the Ukraine.
