Tour of Hope organizer Gerhard Becker deceased
The Tour of Hope, the entire region of Central Hesse, the good cause in favor of children with cancer and the RSV Lahn-Dill have lost a true friend. Gerhard Becker, organizer and driving force of the Tour of Hope, passed away last Friday at the age of 75.
The Tour of Hope was undoubtedly his life’s work, his affair of the heart. Since 1983, the charity cycling event has raised more than 42 million euros nationwide to support children with cancer and leukemia. In 2005, it was the first organization in the world ever to receive the Pierre de Coubertin Medal from the International Olympic Committee for this, and in 2013 Gerhard Becker from Heuchelheim – together with Volker Klein – was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit 1st Class of the Federal Republic of Germany.
Gerhard Becker has been a regular guest at the home games and networking events of our RSV Lahn-Dill for many years. Now the Tour of Hope and the region of Central Hesse has lost one of its most inspiring people. We are grateful to have known you.
THANK YOU, Gerhard!
