RSV Lahn-Dill get into the next round of the Cup

Wins against league-opponents Trier and hosting team Ulm

RSV Lahn-Dill have made their advance from the first preliminary round of the DRS Cup into the quarter final. The twelve-fold Cup-winners first beat Doneck Dolphins Trier 110:45, before hosting team Ulm Sabres were beaten without a chance at 22:88. This means a ticket to the quarter final, where they will be playing against Rhine River Rhinos.

Doneck Dolphins Trier – RSV Lahn-Dill 45:110 (18:23/29:57/43:73)

In the first game of the weekend Trier managed to keep up until the start of the second quarter. The game went via 6;6 (3rd min) and 15:10 (5th min) to 20:23 in the eleventh minute, scored by Trier’s brilliant shooter Dirk Passiwan. But whoever was hoping that Trier had found a way in was soon to be disappointed. First it was National Player Jan Haller who finished off a 23:4-run with a three (46:24, 17th min), followed by Joe Bestwick scoring the 61:31 (21st min) shortly after changeover.

Now RSV were unstoppable, and the Dolphins had nothing left to hold against the Middle Hesse team. They went via 83:39 (29th min) at high speed towards the 100-points barrier, which was reached at 100:43 in the 36th minute. Brilliant performances were not only shown by National Player Boehme, but also British Centre Joe Bestwick, both scoring 25 points each for their team.

Lahn-Dill: Joe Bestwick (25), Thomas Böhme (25/2 threes), Michael Paye (16), Philipp Häfeli (14), Dirk Köhler (14), Piotr Luszynski (13), Jan Haller (3/1), Annabel Breuer, Björn Lohmann.

Ulmer Sabres – RSV Lahn-Dill 22:88 (4:23/10:44/26:72)

It also took a few minutes for RSV to get going in the second game of the day. After the 8:4 (4th min) they got into gear though. They went via 30:10 (15th min) and 50:10 (23rd min) before Captain Michael Paye scored the 83:15 (36th min). The team didn’t struggle once against 2nd Division team, and dominated the game sovereignly.

“We’re happy with how we presented ourselves here in Ulm. We played as a unit and had great team spirit” said RSV-Head-Coach Nicolai Zeltinger, who had just celebrated his 45th birthday the day before. Especially Centres Joe Bestwick and Dirk Koehler deserve special mention, having gotten their team into the quarter final of the DRS-Cup.
