RSV wins against second-league-teams Heidelberg and Munich
Title-defendants RSV Lahn-Dill have done their work at the first round of the DRS Cup in Munich, winning 84:38 against SGK Heidelberg and later on 109:56 against USC Munich. For both Second-league teams this has been the first defeat in this season, and they opened up the way for RSV to go to the quarter-finals in Zwickau.
SGK Heidelberg – RSV Lahn-Dill 38:84 (8:26/16:48/20:64)
The first couple of minutes belonged to Heidelberg, who were even leading 6:5 (3rd min). But the RSV-defence became better and after a three-point-game by Steve Serio (16:8 (5th min)) the road was open for the title-defendants. The game went via 36:10 (16th min) and 62:18 (28th min), and didn’t lose focus making a lot of changes on court. So in the end it was clear that RSV had their next game against hosting team USC Muenchen, who had already won their first game 70:54 against Sabres Ulm.

USC München – RSV Lahn-Dill 56:109 (14:25/30:51/36:84)
The duel between the two most successful teams in the history of the tournament showed pretty early on, that Munich should not keep their hopes of winning this game too high. Especially Steve Serio and Thomas Boehme were playing fast, changing the score from 6:7 (5th min) and 19:10 (8th min) to 51:30 at half-time. And again, after change-over, Steve Serion scored quickly, leading to 62:30 (23rd min). In the last quarter it was Joe Bestwick who scored the hat trick, leading to 90:39 (33rd min), before Thomas Boehme scored the three that broke the 100-mark to 101:45 (36th min).
“We had a great weekend in Munich. Our aim was to concentrate on our game and win against the opposition.” says RSV-coach Nicolai Zeltinger after the game. Special praise went to Boehme and Zwerger, top-scorer of the games however was Briton Joe Bestwick with 38 points.
The next round will be on the 13th or 14th of December against new-built team BSC Rollers Zwickau. A win in Saxon would mean the 18th Final Four-participation for RSV.
