Lahn-Dill will now play against hosting team Madrid, Meaux and Rome
After objections the IWBF have corrected the preliminary groups for the final round of the Champions Cup in Madrid. The five-fold Champions will now play in their Group A games against hosting team CD Fundosa ONCE Madrid, traditional Italian club SSD Santa Lucia Rome as well as CS Meaux from France.
This change in the groups was a reaction by the European organisation to an objection to the already published seeding list. In this first list RSV Lahn-Dill, who became first in EuroLeague I earlier in March, were in one group with title-defendants Galatasaray Istanbul. The seeding list is supposed to comply with a number of guide lines, some indicators being the European ranking of the teams, avoiding teams of the same country to be in one group or two teams out of the same EuroLeague qualification round.
The adventure, from which RSV have returned as winners in 2004, 2005, 2006, 2010 and 2012, will start on the 2nd of May in Las Rozas, 18 kilometres north-west of Madrid’s centre, with a game at 13:30 against three-fold Champions Cup winners CS Meaux. The second game will already start at six o’clock the same day against the hosts, before the game against Rome on Saturday morning. It will be the 12th game between Germany’s and Italy’s most successful teams, eight of those 11 games were won by RSV Lahn-Dill.
