Madrid calling

83:47-success over GSD Anmic Sassari
With this third win on Saturday afternoon at IWBF EuroLeague, RSV Lahn-Dill have secured their spot for the final round of the Champions Cup in Madrid. The 83:47 (29:7/49:24/66:41)-win at August-Bebel-Sporthalle also meant that opposition GSD Anmic Sassari had to say goodbye to their hope of getting into the next round.
Same as at the Champions Cup finals in Madrid 2004 and Istanbul 2006, when both teams were playing each other, RSV took off like a rocket. It almost seemed like the Sardinians had not yet arrived on court, when RSV were already leading 9:2 (2nd min) and later after a great basket by US-boy Steve Serio (21:3 (7th min).
The fifth team of Italy’s Series A found their way better into the game, but the outcome of the game was clear early on when the teams went into half-time at 46:19 (18th min). So it was understandable, that the team lead by captain Michael Paye relaxed a bit in the second half of their third game within 24 hours. After a pretty even third quarter RSV put a bit more pressure on in the last quarter and won the game easily.
