The 2009 Champions Cup final round returns to Wetzlar

RSV Lahn-Dill is host to the seven best wheelchair basketball teams in Europa
The European Champions Cup final round will be held in Wetzlar for the second time. The International Wheelchair Basketball Federation (IWBF Europe) awarded the tournament to the host city of the 2005 finals and 2007 Eurobasketball, Wetzlar and to the host team RSV Lahn-Dill. Lahn-Dill and the defending champions Galatasaray Istanbul are already qualified, and six teams will join after the preliminaries in March 2009.
"We are proud that the IWBF Europe decided in our favour. We had a strong competitor in the Italian team of Taranto. Everybody knows what they can expect of us as a host, so let me just say ‘Welcome to Wetzlar’, once again!", said Lahn-Dill´s executice manager Andreas Joneck. The 2009 EuroCup rounds will be the first under the new organisation scheme that splits the preliminaries in four so-called "EuroLeagues". The teams ranked first and second in EuroLeague1 will move on to the Champions-Cup finals. The runners-up move on to the final rounds of AndrĂ©-Vergauwen-Cup and Willi-Brinkmann-Cup.  A fourth cup will be established to promote the development of wheelchair basketball in eastern Europe.
